Tolman received praise for her portrayal of Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair said that Tolman, "calmly" and "assuredly" was the star of the show. Critics' Choice Television Award, Best Supporting Actress (Movie/Miniseries) and Golden Globe nominations were announced in recognition of her role. Tolman's guest role in The Mindy Project as romantic novelist Abby Berman for two episodes, was announced the same. In 2015, Tolman was an supporting role in Michael Dougherty's comedy-horror film Krampus. Tolman's breakout role in the film as Fargo caused her to drop numerous supporting roles, including mother roles and best friends, wives and husbands. Tolman was searching for new roles that were more unusual. Tolman played a character on ABC in Downward Dog (based on Animal Media Group's web-series). The series ended after one season.
